Dear Certain Conservative White Male Politicians:
I know you are not in favor of sex ed in schools. It is clear you need some kind of education, though.
Let me explain reproduction to you in the terms similar to those I used for my son when he was four:
Boys and girls have different parts between their legs. When these parts come together, sometimes they can make a baby.
It doesn’t matter if these parts belong to people in the same family (incest), of different ages (statutory rape), or if the girl was not willing (rape).
And unlike EL James’ book, there aren’t 50 shades of grey when it comes to rape. Rape is rape. If one person doesn’t want to participate, it’s rape. There is no qualifier (like “legitimate”) before that word.
I cannot believe I have to explain this.
You sound like Johnny Nogerelli, Adrian Zmed’s character in “Grease 2“:
Can’t a girl just do that thing in a book where she adds up the dates of her uh — whaddayacallit — mentalstration?
No one likes to look like a complete idiot, so I’m going to help you out. Here is a link to a “How Stuff Works” exploration of reproduction. It even talks about contraception, so maybe you can share that with your buddy Rush. Please read at your leisure. You don’t even have to admit you read it. But if you do, it will save you future embarrassment.
Supporting the understanding and protection of lady bits,
Beth
OMG. This guy is pathetic. So does this make rape a form of birth control? “S’cuse me while I puke”. I think this just may set the women’s movement back to the stone age (no, no, that will only happen over my dead, bra-less body). Having grown up in the ’50s and ’60s I sometimes wonder just how much progress we’ve made – oh, wait, this is just one idiot – Please, God, let him be the only one and let him come down with an STD that is quite uncomfortable. Really, all y’all younger women: it IS better, not perfect, but, other than the random macho swaggering asshole, you have no idea how much better. Glory Halleluiah!

Sadly, I don’t think he’s the only one who thinks this.

Much to my horror, I was watching this news while my thirteen year old son was in the room. He said, “Mom? Didn’t they have Sex Ed. back in the old days? I think he flunked.” I snickered quietly because he was serious in his observation. Then I was overcome by fear. Fear of a group of people whose logic is undeniably flawed. Fear of a group of people who think I buy their pack of lies. Then I was overcome by anger, an emotion I do not like to use because it can blind one from reason if not kept in check. Anger towards a group that thinks I am too stupid to read what they really stand for and that I am not going to fact check. Or that I can’t remember what they said throughout their “career”.
All I can do is raise my two sons to be independent thinkers and not idealogues.

Good for you! It looks like it is working: Your son is smart! My sons are 7 and 6 and I have a really hard time explaining what is going on with some people today.
