Dear Body,
I don’t know what your problem is, but I wish you would pull yourself together.
You worked fine up until 2020. Then you had two broken bones at the same time (toe and ankle) after never having a broken bone before.
And now you have the nerve to show up with “adhesive capsulitis,” otherwise known as Frozen Shoulder.
That’s fun.
And why?
Usually the causes are a shoulder injury, diabetes, thyroid issues or a stroke.
No, no, no and no.
You know what I am that is apparently an even bigger marker for it?
A white woman over 40.
That’s it.
Delightful.
Apparently, there are three stages, each of which can last several months: freezing, frozen and thawing.
I’ve been in the freezing stage since October.
That stage features excruciating pain and limited range of motion.

That’s it. That’s as high as my left arm goes at the moment.
This whole thing could last one to three years.
ONE TO THREE YEARS.
Body, please don’t play the long game here.
Give me back my range of motion!
Kthxbye,
Beth
* Thanks, John.
In my experience (this is NOT a news flash) everything about growing older is awesome except the time’s timpany played out by our bodies. I hope it unfreezes sooner than later.

That’s right. I love who I am now and what I know, but irritated at my aging physical husk.

I was 52 when my right hip went south. Genetics and trail running. We pay a high price for wisdom. ❤

Yikes! Sadly, that’s true.

My (incompetent) doc said, “We see this in people in their 80s, not their 50s.” How irrelevant… OH well 🙂

That IS irrelevant. Some doctors are manners deficient.

Yep. And reality challenged. How do you argue with an X-ray?

Thanks for sharing this. I can so relate. It’s almost depressing that something you could rely on without fail for so long would start to randomly have issues when everything is otherwise fine.

That’s right! I never thought I’d have to worry about my shoulder. And it was so sudden.

Oh gosh, didn’t know it could last so long. I guess unplugging it and plugging it back in isn’t an option, or jiggling the cord a little.

I really do need a reboot.

I really hope that when you can do more of what you were used to, back to a life of exciting challenges and travel, your body and soul will heal more rapidly.
You will get through this. X
