Dear Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen,
One of your songs came on the radio, and I immediately changed the channel.
I mean no disrespect. I’m just not a fan.
I know, I know: I’m an American, so I’m supposed to love you and your music.
I don’t. I can live without hearing one of your songs ever again.
There is a whole list of singers/bands who fall into that category for me:
Bruce Hornsby and The Range
Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band
The Grateful Dead
Chicago
Joe Cocker
Don Henley
The Cars
George Thorogood
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Steely Dan
The Eagles
The Doobie Brothers
It’s a theme I’ll call “Americana.”
But Cheap Trick? Boston? Blue Öyster Cult? Hell yes.
Look. Listen. I can’t explain my taste.
I can live without “folksy” folks too:
4 Non Blondes
Indigo Girls
Bob Dylan
Good LORD: I cannot STAND Bob Dylan.
I’m sorry. I feel guilty. I feel like I have to turn in my “American” card (which, by the way, I have been tempted to do by things other than music).
Keep on rocking, just not within my earshot.
Beth
I never understood the love for Springsteen. Same with Billy Joel. *sigh* That tweet… Do people really not know what “fact” and “objective” mean?

Now, I do like Billy Joel. And no, people don’t. Fox News and QAnon should prove that!

That’s hilarious and I agree with most of what you said! You may not know this about me.. I have a small Obsession with all things Madonna-lol I can’t help it and I feel guilty!

I’m with you on most of this list except…
Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band — two songs “Get out of Denver” and “Kathmandu”
The Grateful Dead — I hated them until I heard “The Wheel” last year and then “Ripple.” “Touch of Gray” is funny — “the cow is giving kerosene, the kid can’t read at 17, the words he knows are all obscene…”
Steely Dan — I love Aja
I don’t mind some of Springsteen’s earlier music.
The Eagles — hated them until their most recent album and hearing it in the car with my dog as we drove out to see the cranes or whatever was there during this past awful summer changed my mind. Teddy’s (dog) favorite song in the world is “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”
To his credit Teddy’s second favorite (and my first favorite) is The Nails “Home of the Brave.” If you go to Youtube to listen, do NOT watch the stupid ass video someone made to go with it.
I hate Madonna and Billy Joel sucks.

Eh. The songs you note are ok, but I can live without them.
Madonna’s catalog is … erratic. I like “Ray of Light.” There are more Billy Joel songs that I like than Madonna songs.

I loved Madonna’s movie, Desperately Seeking Susan. I think there are a lot of songs that I wouldn’t like but they’re attached to a moment in time.

I’ll listen to some songs simply for the nostalgia.
